>> DAY 2: City tour of Amman. A walk through the winding souks of downtown Amman will be followed by a visit to the ancient Roman Theater and its surrounding museums. Next you will be taken to the ancient Citadel where you will explore ruins of numerous civilizations and enjoy a panoramic view of Amman. You can also visit the quaint Citadel Museum which has samples of the Dead Sea Scrolls among its artifacts. This will be followed by a refreshing lunch at the eco-friendly Wild Jordan where you have a great view of the old city and ancient ruins atop the opposite hill. >> DAY 3: Jerash and Um Qais. You will be transported to the Ancient Roman City of Jerash where you will among other things see the best preserved colonnaded street in the world and impressive examples of Greco-Roman architecture. Next you will be driven to Um Qais to experience another unique ancient city; this one famous for its black basalt theater and the views of the Golan Mountains and the Sea of Galilee. Transfer back to Amman. Dinner can be arranged or you can plan something on your own. *If you would like a box lunch or a scheduled meal stop arranged for you in between sites, please let us know.

>> DAY 4: Madaba, Mount Nebo, and Bethany Beyond the Jordan to Petra. Today you will start heading south to Petra, via three fascinating sites. Your first stop will be Mount Nebo, where Moses first looked over the Holy land. Next you will head to Madaba known as the “city of Mosaics” to view some amazingly well-preserved mosaics including the world’s oldest map of the Holy Land. . From Madaba you will head further south to Bethany Beyond the Jordan where you will see where Jesus Christ was baptized by John the Baptist, and where the River Jordan flows between its east and west banks. From here, you will continue on to Petra for a well deserved night’s rest so you are refreshed and ready to explore the area when you wake up. Overnight in Petra.

>> DAY 5: Petra. A full day in Petra to wander through the magnificent Siq, to stand and marvel at the famous Treasury and to enjoy temples, theaters, dwellings and colors like you have never seen. A hike up to the Monastery is a must and you will quickly realize that you could spend weeks exploring Petra and still not see it all. Overnight in Petra.

>> DAY 6: Little Petra, Shobak Caslte and Wadi Rum. Today you will have the unique experience of visiting Little Petra where you will see the only existing Nabatean frescos and some additional monuments. From there you will go to the famous Shobak castle where you will see examples of Crusader architecture and a great view of the surrounding country. Your final destination today will be the stunning Wadi Rum. A jeep ride over the dunes, an unforgettable sunset, and a dinner with the Bedouins under the stars will complete your day. >> DAY 7: Dead Sea. After breakfast in the desert of Rum, you will be transported to the Dead Sea. Today is the day to relax, float, have a spa treatment and enjoy being in the lowest point on earth. Overnight at Dead Sea.

>> DAY 8: Departure. Transportation from the Dead Sea to QAIA airport in Amman will bring your Jordan Detour to an end. You will be assisted with check in and your luggage, and you will be on your way home with wonderful memories tucked away.

On to Karak Castle, the famous 12th century Crusader Castle that Saladin took siege of. From Karak you will continue onto Petra. Rest up! >> DAY 4: Petra day and Wadi Rum night. Full day in Petra to wander the Siq, explore the monuments, marvel at the Treasury, hike to the monastery, and much more. >> DAY 4: Kerak and Mount Nebo to Amman. Today you will start heading north to Amman, via two fascinating sites. First you will stop at Karak Castle the famous 12th century Crusader Castle that Saladin took siege of. The immense structure and unique architecture will transport you back in time. From Karak you will take a scenic drive to the top of Mount Nebo, where Moses first looked over the Holy land. You will see examples of colorful mosaics and the Serpentine Cross (Brazen Serpent) made by the famous sculptor Giovanni Fantoni. On to Amman for a free night. Dinner or a tour of Amman night life can be arranged if you would like. Overnight in Amman.

An option of a hike through the Ajloun nature reserve and visit to the Soap House to see how our local olive oil soap is made can be arranged. Your next stop will be Um Qais where you will explore another unique ancient city; this one famous for its black basalt theater and the breathtaking views of the Golan Mountains and the Sea of Galilee. Transfer back to Amman for a free evening. Dinner can be arranged or you can plan something on your own.

>> DAY 4: Mt. Nebo, Mkawer, and Dana Nature Reserve. Your first stop today will be the top of Mount Nebo via a scenic drive. You will see where Moses first looked over the Holy land, examples of colorful mosaics and the Serpentine Cross (Brazen Serpent) made by the famous sculptor Giovanni Fantoni. As you look out from Mt. Nebo you will see the valleys, and the Dead Sea looking towards Jerusalem. Next you will be taken to Mkawer, where you will feel you are back in biblical times. With the Dead Sea glistening between the hills and the general isolation of the area, a feeling of peace will surely rush the senses. At the top of Mekawer you will see the spot where John the Baptist was beheaded by King Herod as a gesture to Salome. The final part of your journey today will take you to the Dana Nature Reserve. You will want a good night’s sleep today so you can enjoy your hikes tomorrow. Overnight in Dana.

>> DAY 5: Full day in Dana to Petra. Today you will explore the reserve for its vast eco systems, the flora and fauna, the spectacular hikes and views. You will want to pack an extra battery for your camera for all the photo opportunities you will find. At sunset you will head to Petra. One of the popular hikes will take you to the soap making house at Orjana. Here you will see this ancient tradition of olive soap making first hand by the local women of the area. Upon completion of your desired hike, you will have a dinner and overnight in the eco friendly lodges provided by the Ajloun Nature Reserve.

All include hiking around unique flora and fauna and along ancient water paths that have cut through sheer rock. One hike in particular will give you the opportunity to repel down a waterfall and into the Mujeb River but this isn’t for the faint of heart! After your hike you will be transported to your hotel at the Dead Sea. Now is your well deserved chance to relax, float, have a spa treatment and enjoy being in the lowest point on earth.
